About the Department

Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) is one of the vibrant field studies in the Social Sciences and Humanities College of Woldia University. The department has been opened in 2009/2016 academic year. It furnishes learners with crucial knowledge and skills of understanding politics, society, state, democracy and democratic institutions, multiculturalism, federalism, Peace and security, diplomacy, global politics, African politics, political dynamics of development, gender related issues, and contemporary political issues. In addition to providing quality education, the department strives to contribute its part for research and community engagement endeavors. Currently, the department provides two undergraduate and three postgraduate programs.

Therefore, the department aims to contribute for skilled man-power production, problem solving research activities, community engagements, democratization practices, peace building process, and developmental activities at the local as well national level. Furthermore, Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) department is ready to expand its collaboration with governmental, non-governmental, and international institutions in areas of revitalizing indigenous conflict resolution mechanisms, assisting IDPs, enhancing local good governance, linking tourism and community engagement, addressing multicultural diversity, nation-building, and improving democratic institutions.
