Dear All,
As the dean of the Social Sciences and Humanities College, it is my privilege and an honor to convey my message to our students, communities, and the external world.
Social sciences and Humanities are highly valuable fields for understanding society and improving the human condition. Increasing the knowledge of human society is as important as learning more about mathematics, physics, chemistry, or engineering; for unless we can develop societies in which human beings can live a happy, meaningful and satisfying life, we cannot reap the benefits from learning how to make better automobiles, skyscrapers and computers or space travels. Allow me to use the Albert Einstein’s idea suggests that “politics is more challenging than physics, and the world is more likely to die from bad politics than from bad physics”. This point explains how social scientists are required to cure the world from danger. More than any time before and better than other else, our world today demands the social engineers and architects to design the world social structure in a better manner, and best social scientists, who can make a critical surgery to cure the different social ills, are needed. As the study of human world, the fields in the Social sciences and Humanities have an intrinsic value for the development of human societies. For this reason, I would like to congratulate our students who are joining to the college, and it is my firm believe that you will acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude that helps you to play your share in the development of human society after your graduation.
Further, to heighten its teaching, research, and community engagement capacity, the college of Social Sciences and Humanities is planning to work aggressively on tourism; one of the four priority areas identified by Woldia University. Of the tourism types, the College has identified cultural tourism, ecotourism, and peace tourism as its point of Excel depending on the area potentials and capabilities. Therefore, I would like to invite the government and non-government organizations, and individuals who want to collaborate and work together with us on the areas of peace, tourism, migration, displacement, culture, development and other humanitarian and crosscutting issues.
