The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) was established in 2012. Over the years since its establishment, CSSH experienced some changes that resulted from the inclusion of certain units.  In 2012 Departments of Geography and Environmental Studies, English Language and Literature, and Ethiopian Language(s) and Literature-Amharic were opened. In 2013, the Department of Sociology, in 2016 the Department of Political Science and International Relations, in 2017 the Department of theatrical Arts, and in 2018 the Department of History and Heritage Management were established. Furthermore, in addition to the main Compass, the College has opened different post-graduate programs in different specializations in Sekota and Gashena branches.Thus in 2018 MA in TEFL, in 2022 MA in Political Science, MA in Development Studies, MA in Food Security and Development, and MA in Natural Resource Management programs were started. Furthermore, in 2023 MA in Ethiopian Literature and Folklore was opened. As a result, the college has eight undergraduate and nine post graduate programs under its guidance.
